India gained its Independence in 1947 after years of slavery and servitude under the British Empire. It wasn’t an easy task. It was a difficult task that required selfless effort from great people such as Mahatma Gandhi and, Jawaharlal Nehru, Subash Chandra Bose. Lal Bahadur Shastri. Lala Lajpat Rai. Rani Lakshmi Bai. Bal Gangadhar Tilak. B. R. Ambedkar. Because they loved their country and cared about the people, they had to make many sacrifices to free it from British rule. They couldn’t stand seeing people oppressed and tortured to be able to work as enslaved people in their country. This thought inspired freedom fighters (as we call them) to find the courage to stand up for what they believe and deserve.

Independence Day is celebrated across the country in a significant way because of this reason. The end of British colonialism was marked on August 15, 1947. It was the beginning of the democratic republic. The British Parliament passed the Indian Independence Bill. 

This bill was an essential part of the freedom journey. Jawaharlal Nehru was the one who declared India independent and swore himself in as the first Prime Minister of India.

India celebrates Independence Day with grand ceremonies that include raising the National Flag, speeches/skits about freedom fighters and other movements, traditional dances and competitions, and singing of the National Anthem. This day is celebrated in honor and memory of all those who gave their lives for our freedom.

The most spectacular celebrations take place in New Delhi, India’s capital. It is an unforgettable day of preparations. On the auspicious eve of Independence Day, the Prime Minister would give the Address to the Nation. The day begins with the raising of the National flag. Next, 21 honorary gunshots are followed by the National Anthem and the National Anthem. Finally, the Prime Minister gives a speech on the achievements and struggles of our forefathers, who are the reason we have an independent country.

Next is the Independence Day Fair. The Independence Day Fair is the next event. It includes the march past by the army and the display of the culture, traditions, and specialities of the various states of India. It is an event you should not miss. Every citizen of India is proud to witness the celebrations, whether they are present in person or via social media.

This day is so important that, despite the pandemic, there was still a low-key celebration.

Twenty per cent of the usual guest lists attended. Five hundred National Cadet Corps cadets participated in the event. High security was maintained, and COVID-19 protocols were strictly adhered to. In addition, there were medical booths set up and ambulances stationed for any emergency.
